Barbara’s artistic journey began with childhood art lessons on Martha’s Vineyard which eventually led to a Studio and Art History major at Smith College. After graduation, she worked in the Art Department at Southern Methodist University where she learned silk screening. This led to designing her own whimsical holiday cards which she is still doing. Barbara seriously resumed painting again after moving to Marblehead about 18 years ago, first in watercolors, then oils and now pastels. She has studied with various artists on the North Shore and in other locations including the Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creed WI. She attended a pastel workshop in San Miguel de Allende a couple of years ago and will be heading to Tuscany this year for another pastel workshop.

Barbara is a resident of Marblehead and is a juried artist member of the Marblehead Arts Association where she was on the Board of Directors for many years. She’s currently Treasurer of the Swampscott Art Association and a member of Newburyport Art Association, Northshore Art Association, various pastel associations and chairs the Senior Art at the Marblehead Festival of the Arts. She has exhibited at all these venues as well as arts festivals and juried and invitational exhibits on the North Shore. In addition to her many solo shows, her work has been displayed at the YMCA, stores and offices in Marblehead as well as other locations on the Northshore.
